The Crescent House is not a shelter, but rather a haven for children of physical or sexual abuse. Our team of specially trained professionals provide evidence-based services, which include referral for therapy, forensic interviews and medical exams, crisis intervention, support, community education and prevention programs, and multi-disciplinary case management. The Crescent House is the only hospital-based multidisciplinary child protection team in the Central and South Georgia region for consultation and support.
Sensitive care is provided by a dedicated staff to help the hospital and community identify, treat, and comfort child abuse victims and their families. Our focus is on the child.
Our team consists of:
- Board-Certified Child Abuse Pediatrician
- Nurse Practitioner
- Forensic Interviewers
- Child Life Specialist
- Social Worker
- Victim Advocate
Working together, we care for victims of child abuse and neglect in a child-friendly environment.
The Stewards of Children Prevention Program developed by Darkness to Light is also available through the Crescent House.
Darkness to Light is a non-profit organization whose mission is to reduce the incidence of child sexual abuse by shifting the responsibility of prevention from children to adults. The mission is accomplished through an award-winning media campaign that raises public awareness and directs adults to educational tools. The tools teach adults how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse and include the 7 Steps to Preventing Child Sexual Abuse and the consciousness training based Stewards of Children curriculum. Please contact the Crescent House if you or your agency would like to schedule a training.
If you have reason to believe that a child has been the victim of child abuse, contact your county’s Department of Children’s Services or Law Enforcement Agency. Also, if you suspect a child is in immediate danger, or if you witness a child being abused, please call 911 immediately!
On-call assistance is available from The Crescent House 24/7 and can be accessed by calling 478-633-7044 and following the paging instructions. If you suspect a child is in immediate danger, or if you witness a child being abused, please call 911 immediately!
