Patient Stories: Clarissa

Atrium Health Navicent Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital became a home away from home for Clarissa and her family. In November 2020, Clarissa began running a low-grade fever with headaches that lasted several days. After many tests, her physician referred her to Atrium Health Navicent Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital where she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Clarissa’s chemotherapy began immediately and the children’s hospital became a home away from home. “We are so glad to have the children’s hospital in Macon,” says Clarissa’s mom, CJ. “We have great people treating our child closer to home.” Thanks to her doctors, nurses and other members of her care team, Clarissa continues to receive treatments.
