Social Services are staffed by professionally trained social workers. At the Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital, Navicent Health, social workers are assigned to cover both inpatient units and outpatient specialty clinics. The social workers function as an integral part of the health care team by linking the patient, family, and hospital staff with the community.
The primary function of the social worker is to address the social and emotional needs of patients and families that are affected by the child’s illness and/or disability.
Social services include but are not limited to Pre-Admission Planning, Crisis Intervention, Support and Guidance, Care Coordination, Resource Identification and Referral, Case Consultation, Education, Discharge Planning, Financial Assistance and Advocacy.
