Navicent Health and Mercer University School of Medicine Pediatric Residency Program is a three-year program, accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education, leading to certification in General Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Thank you so much for being interested in our Program. We are a “small” program doing “big” things! We have lots of excitement going on in our Department and we are happy to share it with everyone.
We celebrate that our Pediatric residents are very diverse from different backgrounds and cultures. We can definitely say that our residents are top notch when it comes to providing pediatric care for patients from across the state of Georgia. We strongly believe that learning and providing the best pediatric care possible are our priorities. The goal of our residency is to provide a competency based system of pediatric education that prepares residents to be competent general pediatricians able to provide comprehensive, coordinated care to a broad range of pediatric patients. This includes education in the competencies and skills needed to practice general pediatrics of high quality in any community, rural or urban setting. Education in the sub-specialties enable residents to participate as team members in the care of patients with chronic and complex disorders. Education is also provided in the financing of health care, practice management, patient advocacy, ethics, professionalism and communications skills, and lifelong learning to enable residents to launch a meaningful career in pediatric medicine. With our series of didactic and interactive lectures, you will definitely obtain the pediatric knowledge that you need in order to be a successful practitioner.
We value that our residents and faculty work hard and play hard as well. We have a close-knit group of knowledgeable general Pediatric faculty here, and we have worked hard to establish an ambulatory environment, which closely resembles that of a general Pediatric practice. An optimum “resident-to-attending” physician ratio affords you the ideal teaching situation. We make sure that your experience is not overrun with other learners. The one-on-one instruction and hands-on training of these smaller groups will enhance your learning and maximize your skills.
We are a “young” and innovative program. We are not hampered by the traditional barrier of “we never did it that way.” Resident feedback, suggestions, and ideas are valued in the development and improvement of our program.
Being a physician in this three-year program, you will see how amazing it is to be a part of an institution that has educated outstanding Pediatricians throughout the state of Georgia and beyond.
Our program is located in the middle of Georgia in the city of Macon, Georgia, which is affectionately known as the “Heart of Georgia”. We are also the home and proud birthplace of Little Richard, Otis Redding, and the newly famous Grammy-award winning country star, Jason Aldean. We are a medium-sized city with a small-town appeal. Macon is the fourth largest city in Georgia. It is home of the Cherry Blossom Festival, which happily boasts the city turning the colors of hot pink- from the pink poodles to pink ice cream. Macon is alive with music, theater, and many historic attractions that history buffs would love. We are only an hour away from Atlanta if one just needs that large city appeal. Macon is an excellent place for your Pediatric training.
